so far as i know janet is contracted up to book 16. I so desperately want steph to end up with Ranger, he doesnt make her mad like joe does. Its like he knows her, he knows how to handle her, they are a great team. A perfect couple if they would ever become one

Love Stephanie's character, Morelli's character too young, Ranger's character much too old!

I want Stephanie to end up with Ranger. The way I see it, Joe loves Stephanie for who she was - neighborhood girl, comfortable, wanted marriage and kids, etc - and Ranger loves her for who she is and who she's becoming. I think that's what Stephanie needs - a man who supports who and wants to grow with her. I don't see Joe doing that.
Also, Stephanie is one of the very few people in Ranger's inner circle. He trusted her very early on by telling her about Julie (his daughter), answering questions about his family, and explaining his feelings to her (he was scared she was dead, terrified to loose her, etc). I just don't see Ranger and Tank having that kind of lovey dovey relationship. I also loved the twist in book 12 when Ranger is suspected of kidnapping his daughter and he moves in, unannounced, with Stephanie like she did to him in books 10 and (i'm pretty sure) 11. It also signaled that when Ranger was in trouble he could turn to and trust Stephanie - they're a team. I could also see Ranger compromising a bit on his workload - less danger, more management, etc. - in exchange for Stephanie doing the same - taking over Vinnie's business, doing security planning for RangeMan, etc. He's been married before, just like she has, and knows the score. I also think his ex-wife broke his heart in some way - maybe they tried to make it work and it just blew up so he's kept a part of himself reserved from full on commitment.
As for Grandma Bella - she also stated in one of the books (maybe 9-10?) that she was wrong about seeing Stephanie in the coffin as a young woman and she'd be very old. Also, she said Joe's wife would be blond but that Stephanie would have a boatload of kids. I think Joe and his old high school flame in the mob gal pal are going to get back together.
This last book also let us know that Dickie most likely stood to gain access to at least $10Million of the $40Million from the firm. As I was reading those lines I was hoping the squishing machine would fall on him and Stephanie would inherit the money since his will hasn't been updated. Maybe he can have some kind of weirdo accident befitting the pervert that he is, and Stephanie can inherit the money. This would be interesting because she's no longer dependent on being a BEA, Joe, or Ranger for support. I think she'd still work with Ranger - she couldn't stand being at home when she was supposed to be laying low.
I just finished reading the series to date - it took me like 2.5 weeks so a lot of this is fresh in my mind and I'm already counting down the days to the next book. I hope to pick up Plum Lovin' and the Christmas book over the weekend and read what happens between the numbers.
I'm also hoping we'll find out more about Tank's relationship to Ranger. I suspect that they were in the Army together and that he might even be Julie's god father. My presumption is based on the end of book 12 when Julie and Stephanie are at the hospital and Julie tells us that her Mom ordered Tank to stay by her side while she flying up there. Her Mom must know Tank if she trusts him with the safety and care of her daughter instead of reaching out to Ranger's parents or other family in Newark. While she comes across as being Ranger's kid through and through I'm sure she was scared and her Mom would need to give the kiddo some information to assure her that it was safe to hang out with Tank. I also hope we see more of Julie - now that she's met and interacted with her biological father hopefully she'll demand more of a relationship with him. I could see this being a great story line for Ranger and Stephanie as they try to sort through everything.
Anyhooo - that's my two cents (and then some).
Night all, Quirkygal

I soo love your idea, it is my own thoughts on paper, only i couldnt put mine together. Its perfect, I've always been for steph and ranger. And i do agree that joe wants steph to change for him to be with her, he's in love with the idea of it, but ranger is just in love with steph, and i dont see him as the kind of person to just let anyone close to him, he is a secretive guy. And he didnt mind when steph asked him his personal questions. Unfortunately alex and janet are not revealing anything about which way janet is leaning towards for the ending which really sux, but alex did say it would be a happy ending for both men, so hopefully it works out someway that i can enjoy.

After reading these posts, I'm not sure I've read the same series.
I see Ranger becoming more of the control freak to the point of almost stalking Stephanie with monitors and bugs to pinpoint her every location. He also expects her to carry a gun (which she hates), propel her in dangerous situations (which she hates) and continue being a BEA (which she has repeatedly stated she hates); he's trying to make her into a Jeanann Burrows or a female ranger type. So in essence, I see Ranger being as uncompromising as Morelli only in a different extreme.
As a Jersey girl, I doubt Stephanie will compromise for either man. so now it's up to the guys to change and conform to whatever lifestyle she chooses.

;D
From reading your post, I am not sure either. I don't see Ranger pushing into anything. She has a tendency to find trouble with or without him. With the exception of when Julie was kidnapped, she put herself in danger. He gave her an out of being an BEA. She got to sit in front of a computer and do searches. I have to assume he paid her well enough for it but somehow and we don't know how, she chose to be a BEA instead. He did not tell to not work at Cluck in Bucket, the dry cleaners or anything. In fact, it was only Morelli's celebrating that cost her any jobs at all. Ranger never jeapordized any of her other non-BEA type jobs.
I think one of the reasons Ranger has let her in so much is because being near him is not putting her in jeopardy. She is such a trouble magnet, his being in her life is actually making it less dangerous. He has distanced himself from everyone else I think to protect him.
I think Ranger knows he can't make her do anything, so instead of convincing to stop or tying in the bathroom he just monitors her. She knows about it and she's ok with it so it's not stalking. Heck, even Morelli is ok with it because he knows she's a magnet for trouble and it keeps her safe.
It's funny how different people can read the same thing and take something completely different away from it. I guess that is what makes us all unique interesting people.
