If someone is "blinkered" it kinda means they're not seeing the whole picture. (Like horses can't see to the side when they've got blinkers around their eyes) Basically, blinkered can be used to mean narrow minded and refusing to look at all the evidence before making a judgement. And Hannah is blinkered - she looks at one guy who is wonderful, and refuses to look anywhere else. I think Ranger's the kind of guy who doesn't fall in love often, but when he does he falls hard.

I want Ranger to be happy. I hope he doesn't drive Stephanie away to protect her from his lifestyle. Thanks for explaining "blinkered." I'll have to find ways to learn my fun, new word.

Yeah, same. I also want Morelli to be happy, but I think he's got a bigger chance of being happy without Steph than Ranger perhaps does. Your welcome ;D The voting is looking a little biased, don't you think lol?

Yeah, lol. I think Ranger's not going to admit how he really feels easily, because, like Cecilia said, when he falls, he falls hard. I mean, it was hard enough for me *wink* He doesn't want to get hurt. Steph's been with Morelli most of the time he's known her, so he can't really be sure whether she loves him or Morelli... and he doesn't want to say anything in case he looks stupid and she doesn't love him. But look what he says in TBO. 'I love you... in my own way.' Even though he quaitified it, it's still a big admission for Ranger, one he wouldn't make lightly or easily. He wouldn't say it if he didn't mean it, even with the added bit. I think he really loves Steph

I also think Ranger loves Steph, and he also see the way Morelli keeps his fingers in the pie, when he wants to, so he (ranger) is waiting til Steph can see thru Morelli's mindless jarble, before he puts the pressure on Steph, which will make it easy for Steph to stay with Ranger.

Well, there's no harm in you believing that. I have to say, it's a very attractive belief. I believe I might join you. There room for me?

ranger and steph are made for each other. He might not be long term material now, but i think if steph was to say "i want you" Ranger would do his best to accomodate her and he would be completely faithful, no doubt. With time i think he could be a long term guy. Im in love with a character, oh boy im crazy

I think Ranger does love Stephanie and he certainly cares what happens to her but who knows if they truely belong together. I was in love with Ranger myself until I got to Seven UP, I was really turned off when Ranger told Steph he'd help her bring in Eddie DeChooch only if she spent the night with him. He used sex as a bargaining tool. Joe loves her just as much as Ranger, he puts up with all her crap doesn't he?

Yeah i do believe joe loves steph and he does put up with her crap, which in real life would be the guy you would pick. At the same time Joe does push all her buttons and constantly upsets her, Ranger doesnt upset her, he seems to know how to handle her. I truly am torn, I do love all the interactions between steph and ranger, its awesome, but I do think whomever Janet picks for steph to end up with I will be happy because i do love them both. And i trust Janet to make it a fulfilling ending (hopefully)

Janet E likes happy ending. No matter what it will be a happy ending for everyone involved, ok, maybe not the fans but the characters for sure. I think Ranger is completely wrong in real life but he, it's not real life. He has the means to watch her back without locking her in the bathroom, he manages to do everything that Joe wants to do without pissing her off. And, instead of getting all uptight about how she always manages to be in danger and her crazy life, he just finds it all funny and accepts it for what it is.
Maybe this is reading too much into everything but, I thought it was interesting how in the book about his daughter, Ranger seems to not want to get involved emotionally. He has all these rules ( not covetings, not getting involved ) about life and he seems to break them all with Steph. That shows something. Where Joe found this crazy free spirited girl and now wants her to fit his mold of what a wife/mother should be.

In response to the SevenUp thing. At first, I thought it was a little weird that Rangers requested payment for his assistance. I think he did it because he knew she was not seeing Joe at the time and she really did want him but was scared. He was giving her an excuse. I mean, at the end of the day, it wasn't like someone's life was at stake and she had to do it, she just wanted to bring him in on his terms. If she didn't want to, he would never have done anything. It was just the little nudge she needed.

Ranger doesn't upset Stephanie because he gives her what she wants and doesn't argue with her, even when she is putting herself and others in danger. He just bails her out everytime she get in over her head. Joe may push her buttons and get her upset but at least he is honest with her. When he tells her not to do sosomething it's usually because it's illegal or she could hurt herself or someone else. She breaks the law on a regular basis and doesn't stop to think that her boyfriend is a cop. She puts Joe in a bad position everytime she does something she shouldn't (like messing around with a crime scene when she helped Homer Ramos' girfriend move the dead body from her car and the constant breaking and entering) and he covers for her. Ranger doesn't mind her behavior because he doesn't always follow the law himself.

Completely. She is a crazy! But if she weren't there wouldn't be any humor or adventure for us to read about. She is a younger version of Grandma Mazur. She is always going to want to do crazy stupid things. Grandma settled down for a while but it came out eventually. It would be more fun to see what her life would be with Ranger. Joe is a good guy, doing the right thing, being a cop but that doesn't work well with a bounty hunter who doesn't tend to think too hard or follow the law. Ranger does do more than just clean up her messes. He did get her to hide out at his place. It wasn't until she thought they found junkman that she left. When she wanted to leave without him, he threw her on the bed and made her wait 5 minutes. When she told to accept her attitude or get out, instead of getting mad, he kissed and calmed her down. He manages her well.

I agree with mikkib. It's a book it's supposed to be an escape for us from real life. Morelli is trying to get steph to fit into a mold she is not ready for atm. And yes ranger didnt want to get emotionally involved when his daughter was kidnapped because it wouldnt have helped the situation. But he has got emotionally involved with Steph and he could not bear to lose her. Ranger does have the ability and means to save and protect her. And all those interaction are awesome to read, i love it when he saves the day or helps her. He might chuckle at some situations but you know its because he really cares. Seven Up was great, it was about time something happened between them, he only requested something he knew she also wanted, but was to scared to do anything about. I hope there are alot more books with alot more of the ranger, steph interactions they are the best. Man i can't wait for the next book.
