Morelli! Morelli! Morelli! He's the man for her, but she isn't mature enough yet to know it. Ranger is simply a hot dream, I believe he cares for her, but nothing serious will ever come of it. But if she isn't careful she may not have either one. Ranger doesn't want her forever and if Joe ever finds out about her playing "touchy-feely" with Ranger she won't have him either. I mean she totally flips out if she even suspects that Joe is with Terry Gillman. But she makes out with Ranger and lets him put his hands up her shirt & inside her jeans and this seems to be okay with her. She is Joe's girlfriend and she is cheating on him!

It's funny. We are so fired up about who she should be with. It seems to me that from the interviews that I have listened to, Janet E hasn't decided who Steph should be with. She doesn't intend to decide until she is finished with the series and even then there might be two books one for each of them. Ah, well, I guess we will just have to see.

Something occured to me. If you think about the future, what would you rather see?
1. Steph working at Rangeman, doing computer work, occasionally doing fieldwork, being monitored and backed up by Rangeman personel. I could see her helping Ranger running his company, using her luck to help him occasionally while blowing things up.
2. Steph married to Joe, being a cop's wife, at home, cooking meatloafs and taking care of a bunch of kids. I don't know.
I just do see her doing the latter. What do you think ? How do you think Steph's life would go if she married Joe. I think she would turn into Grandma, trying to be someone she is not.

I think grandma mazur and steph are similar now, both wild and looking for adventures. I do agree that if steph married joe she would be forced to tame her wild ways, and yes turn into the younger grandma mazur. However Ranger would not try to change her, he would do anything possible to look after her, im not sure i see her working for rangeman, but i do like it when she wears clothes with his name on it, i think they would both possibly continue how they are going, ie, ranger at rangeman and steph at vinnies. Until they both felt the urge to begin a family or settle down. They are both not ready for settling down yet but i think they complement each other nicely. I could definately picture a ranger ending.

I can't believe you all see Joe ending her wild ways! Once a crazy person going on crazy adventures, always a crazy person going on crazy adventures!!

Well, that's the thing. Joe wants to end her wild ways. And apparently it can be done in Plum world. Grandma Mazur calmed her wild ways at least for while, apparently for a man. According to Steph, all that ended with Grandpa died. I would rather see Steph continue to be her crazy self than to settle down.

I dont think Joe would intentionally stop her from being wild. But he has said numerously that he doesnt want her to do that anymore so she can be with him, and he wont have to worry about her. So if she was to end with him possibly she would stop her wild ways out of guilt, not sure. But she would have to change. Where as Ranger is not pushing anything onto her, he likes her as is

I'm a complete cupcake! I mean I like Ranger and he defiantly has some good qualities. But when it's all said and done I'm with Morelli all the way.

Ranger does have a large extended family - we just don't see them because the books are written in first person. The great thing about that is that we get to know what Stephanie really thinks and get to solve the mysteries along with her. The bad thing is we only get to see the characters in action when Stephanie is there.
I doubt Ranger works 24/7 and Trenton isn't all that far from Newark (where most of his family still lives). We do know he takes off for Miami alot and sees his daughter (and her stepfather, which is how faux Ranger learned about Julie) and I imagine while he's down there he sees his grandma who took care of him while he went to high school and any other family members.
I think when Ranger is "on duty" he's totally the job and therefore we don't see his emotional side except for when it comes to Stephanie - who for some reason has chipped away at his exterior and made her way into his heart. I think he does like Steph's family - he smiles when Grandma Mazur brings her wacky dates to the table, listens to Steph talk about her sister, and seems very content to go with the flow. Italians and Burgers aren't the only ones with crazy extended families. Cubans excel at this and we have a knack for making anyone we like family too no mater how many machinations we need to go through to get there. If Tank has been around Ranger as long I suspect, Tank is probably considered one of thie kids/grandkids at Ranger's family functions. That's just who we are. Very family centered. And if you're a bit of a black sheep it can be painful. Just ask Steph how that feels compared to her perfect sister and mother.
I really think Ranger is it for the long haul. Whatever is keeping him from fully opening up to Stephanie and his fear of commitment will be sussed out. I think one of the reasons why he keeps Steph at arms length is because she knows him too well and, unlike anyone other than Tank, can read him. She's very loyal to him and has never spilled the beans about their affair, where his family lives, what his apartment at RangeMan is like, what the offices are like, his story as a juvie offender, and (until faux Ranger showed up) never mentioned his ex-wife or Julie to anyone (and even then it was simply a need to know basis to help the cops find Julie). What has Morelli really told Steph about himself? The fact that they grew up together helps up a bit but there were big chunks of his life were she was not intimately involved with him - he was in the Navy, she's at college, married and working outside the Berg, Joes' undercover in Vice, etc. There is more to Morelli than the finest ass in all of Trenton and yet he never shares his thoughts with her.
Just my two cents, Quirkygal.

Character wise, I prefer Ranger. For Stephanie, Morelli. And I love Diesel (obviously!). He is so much fun and I love his personality.

I love both men. They are sexy and kickass. -Although Morelli is my fav
However as a romantic choice for Stephanie I would go with Morelli. I love the conflict between them and those sweet and sexy moments. They make a good pair. I don't think he would stiffle her or change her. He loves her and wants her safe, nothing wrong with that.
Ranger is hot and mysterious and he cares but I think he needs a mysterious and challenging woman of his own.

Ranger, Ranger, Ranger!
Joe has become less of a hot-blooded Italian, you can see this by the way the air is silent on so many phone calls when he doesn't like what Stephanie is doing. You can tell he loves her because he bites his tongue, but he's never going to accept the way she lives. He wants her to be boring so he doesn't have to worry, understandable, but if he really loved her, he'd learn to live with it.
Ranger is amazing! He accepts Stephanie's profession (and that she's not good at it, I think it's funny that he pays his men to follow her and up helping her make low bond captures...he probably pays them more than Stephanie makes and she never shares the money with any of them). He's a good provider, and a good guy. Even though he says he's an "opportunist" he doesn't do anything too far beyond what Stephanie can live with because he respects her. He's a human, you see that VERY clearly in 12 sharp. That book almost had me in tears near the end, it was the BEST one yet! He opens up to Stephanie, something I never really imagined him doing, tells her he can be emotionally distant from his child, almost any parent can tell you that that would not be an easy thing to do, so imagine how much he must love Stephanie to not be able to do the same thing with her. He has so much sadness and darkness around him, I think Stephanie is good for him, shows him some fun and lightheartedness, and she keeps saying, she "amuses" him.
Neither Joe or Ranger are looking for other women. It has been said that when other women approach them, they show no interest (Joe actually makes mean faces or something to get the women to leave him alone), so I think that is also kind of hard on Stephanie. She sees that they don't show interest in other women, so I'm sure she feels bad having conflicting feelings towards two men!
I don't know how Janet is going to finish off the series, but I'm really glad she's done so much character development with Ranger. Joe seems so boring since after the first book. He was cool then, but it doesn't seem like there is much to know about him. I don't get the whole "30%" comment Ranger made, because it seems like with Joe, what you see is what you get.

oh jeez, ive been pondering this question since i discovered the series. ranger or morelli? hmmm.
i honestly can't choose. im leaning towards ranger right now, just because there seems to be more morelli romance in the books, so that leaves me craving more ranger!
god i hope she makes two different books to end the series: one for ranger and one for morelli. any guess on how likely that rumor will become true?
